The Hackathon is open to participants from Ukraine and other countries who want to contribute to green, sustainable and resilient reconstruction of Ukrainian municipalities.
We welcome architects, urban planners, designers, engineers, construction specialists, landscape experts, students, young professionals, startups, researchers, NGOs, community representatives, inclusion specialists, technology providers, manufacturers of bio-based materials and eco-technologies, as well as interdisciplinary teams.
Participants should be ready to work on real municipal challenges and develop solutions that combine environmental performance, feasibility, inclusion, quality of place and implementation potential.

To participate, you need to register through the official call for participants on the REBUILD GREEN website.
After registration, selected participants will receive information about the municipal challenges, the Hackathon format, team formation, mentoring sessions and final presentation requirements.
During the Hackathon, teams will work on selected challenges from Ukrainian municipalities with support from mentors and experts in urban planning, architecture, engineering, bio-based construction, circular economy, social innovation, financing and implementation.

The main Hackathon format in 2026 is online.
This allows participants, mentors and experts from different cities and countries to join the process and work together on Ukrainian municipal reconstruction challenges.
Offline meetings, partner sessions or presentations may be organised separately if resources and partner commitments allow, but participation in the Hackathon itself does not require physical presence.

Yes. Team formation is part of the Hackathon process.

Participants will have the opportunity to connect with others, join existing teams or create new interdisciplinary teams around selected municipal challenges.
The best teams usually combine several types of expertise: design, engineering, ecology, construction technologies, community engagement, finance, communication and project implementation.

Teams will work on real green reconstruction challenges submitted or validated by Ukrainian municipalities, hromadas or local development agencies.
The challenges may relate to housing, public services, education, rehabilitation, culture, community resilience, circular construction, bio-based materials, energy efficiency, climate resilience, public spaces and other recovery needs.

We are looking for solutions that are sustainable, inclusive, feasible, replicable and relevant to real municipal needs.
Solutions may include spatial concepts, architectural and urban ideas, bio-based construction approaches, circular economy models, eco-technologies, social innovation, community engagement tools, financing logic or implementation roadmaps.
The programme gives special attention to biomaterials, prefabricated bio-based systems, circular construction, energy efficiency and regenerative built environment solutions, while remaining open to complementary eco-technologies.

After the Hackathon, three winning projects will be selected for further acceleration.
The acceleration phase will last approximately one year, from November 2026 to November 2027. During this phase, selected projects may receive support with concept refinement, technical feasibility, partner mapping, budget logic, impact framing, consortium-building and preparation for donor, grant, public or blended financing.
The goal is to help winning projects move from ideas to implementation-ready or grant-ready project packages.

No. REBUILD GREEN 2030 is not a grant scheme in itself.
It is an enabling platform that connects municipal needs, experts, technologies, teams, partners and potential financing pathways.
The programme helps selected projects become stronger, more structured and more ready for external funding, donor support, public-private partnerships, investment or consortium-based implementation.

Hackathon outputs will be evaluated according to transparent criteria, including:
municipal relevance, environmental performance, feasibility, replicability, inclusion and accessibility, quality of place, partnership and funding potential, and team capacity.
The winning projects should respond to real municipal needs and demonstrate potential to continue beyond the Hackathon into acceleration, funding preparation and implementation partnerships.

Yes. Municipalities, hromadas, local development agencies and public-sector institutions are key participants in the programme.
They can submit or validate local reconstruction needs, provide data and context, support challenge framing, participate in mentoring and evaluation, and become local owners or beneficiaries of selected solutions.
Municipal ownership is one of the core principles of REBUILD GREEN 2030.

Yes. REBUILD GREEN 2030 is an open partnership platform.
Partners may join the whole programme, a specific cycle, the Hackathon, an acceleration workstream, a municipal project, an event or a visibility platform.
Donors can support the public-interest mission of green reconstruction, technical assistance, project preparation and acceleration. Sponsors can support programme activities, events, visibility and specific workstreams while positioning themselves as contributors to green reconstruction and urban innovation.

This Hackathon is not only about generating ideas.
It is part of a long-term programme that connects municipal challenges with expert knowledge, bio-based and circular construction solutions, acceleration, consortium-building and financing pathways.
The strongest projects are expected to continue after the Hackathon and develop into real pilot, demonstrator or scalable reconstruction projects for Ukrainian municipalities.
